DIEGO ARMANDO MARADONA

Maradona is an Argentine football player, world champion in 1986 and considered as one of the best players of all time. The magic of the t-shirt number 10 remains in the memory of all Argentines, in a mixture of reverence and gratitude for the great joy provided by the crack. In his gallery of plays is the famous and controversial "hand of God", besides the most spectacular goal of the century.

Diego Armando Maradona was born on October 30, 1960, in a quiet suburb of Buenos Aires called Villa Fiorito. He was the son of a factory worker, he began playing football at the age of 9, with a team called Los cebollitas. In 1976, at age 15, signed with the first division of Argentinos Juniors. His nickname was "the golden boy." In 1980 it was sold to Boca Juniors and two years later to Barcelona in Spain. In 1984 he was hired by Napoli in Italy and there he won two Italian championships in 1986/87 and 1989/90, a Coppa Italia (1987) Uefa Cup (1989) and one Italian Supercup (1990). At 17 years he was one of the top 25 Argentine players, but not mature enough to participate in the Argentina team which enshrined as world champion in 1978.

In 1979 he was captain of the team that won the world junior championship. At the World Cup Spain '82, Maradona played poorly and was expelled in a game against Brazil. Since the World Cup Mexico '86 was the consecration of Maradona as a great player and a football legend. He led the victory for Argentina against Germany (3-2) in the final. The most memorable game of this tournament was Argentina-England, in which Maradona left the Argentine territory, dribbled 10 English players and did a truly great goal. In the Cup of 1990 he led Argentina to the final but lost 1-0 against Germany.

Maradona's relationship with drugs was made public for the first time in 1991, when he was expelled from the Napoli after failing a doping test. He returned to Spain, Sevilla and then to Argentina to play for Newell's Old Boys. This drug problem would be a nightmare at the Cup of 1994, when the doping test found he had used "ephedrine" and FIFA forbid him to play for a year. For Argentina, which depended heavily on their captain, ended up losing in the matchl against Romania. After that year and after the suspension, he returned to Boca Juniors where he played until 1997. On the day of his 37th birthday, retired from the football fields.

During the year 2000 he went to a recovery clinic in Cuba, where he decided to write his autobiography called "I am the Diego." Years later in Argentina was encouraged to conduct his own television show, "La Noche del Diez", with large national and international guests.

Diego is an avowedly devoted father of two daughters, Dalma and Gianinna. Also bears a tattoo of Che Guevara on his right arm. This and other aspects of the god-person inspired the biographical documentary "Maradona by Kusturica" (2008), produced by the great Serbian filmmaker.

Nowadays, Maradona is the coach of the National Team for the World Cup.
