Ernesto Guevara de la Serna was born on June 14, 1928 in Rosario, Argentina. At the age of two he suffered his first asthma attack. The family moved in 1932 to the city of Altagracia with medical advice.
In December 1947 he joined the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires. During 1952 he travels through Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela in the company of Alberto Granados. On June 12, 1953 he received the title of doctor.
On July 6 he leaves for Venezuela, but the situation in Bolivia and its subsequent contact with Latin American exiles in Peru makes him change his mind.In December 1953 he arrives in Guatemala. In January 1954 he meets Antonio (Nico) Lopez, a participant in the assault on the Moncada Barracks, with whom he becames friends. After the coup that culminated in the overthrow of the democratic government of Jacobo Arbenz, Che leaves for Mexico.
In July 1955 he met Fidel Castro and enlists as a doctor of the future expedition of Granma. On November 25, 1956 revolutionary fighters leave the port of Tuxpan, bound for Cuba. The landing takes place on 2 December and the rebels were surprised a few days later at Alegria de Pio by Batista's army.
On January 17, 1957 he participates in the first victorious battle of the rebels in La Plata. On May 28, obtained an important victory in the attack on the headquarters of Uvero. According to Che, this fight marks the majority of the Rebel Army. On July 21, 1957 was promoted to the rank of commander by order of the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
On June 5, he was appointed head of the fourth rebel column (actually the second). Between July and December he set up a camp in the area of El Hombrito. There he installs a school, a shoe factory, a harness, an armory, a tinsmith, a blacksmith and an oven to make bread.
On August 21, 1958, Che received marching orders destined for the province of Las Villas to head the units of the Movement July 26 that operate in that area. The invading column 8 "Ciro Redondo" party Aug. 31 from El Jibaro. On September 8 he reaches Camagüey. On October 15, after traveling over 500 km is in the Sierra of El Escambray. Che set up his headquarters at Trestle House.
On 28 December, as part of the final offensive of the Rebel Army, began attacking the city of Santa Clara. December 31 is consumed making the city and the triumph of the Revolution. On January 2, 1959 he moved to Havana. On 7 February is declared a Cuban citizen by birth.
On November 26, 1959 he is named president of the National Bank of Cuba.
On March 4, 1960 arrived at the scene where the French ship exploded Coubre. The next day, during the farewell of mourning for the victims of sabotage, his image is captured in a memorable photograph that is on the cover of this album.
On 21 October he travles to the countries of the socialist community. He visits Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union, East Germany, Hungary, China and North Korea. On January 6, 1961 in television he reports the results of your trip.
On February 23, 1961 he was appointed Minister of Industry.
On August 2, 1962 he travels to the front of the Cuban delegation headed for Punta del Este, Uruguay, to participate in the Inter-American Economic Council Conference Social. The 8th he participates in the fifth plenary session and whips the so-called Alliance for Progress. He delivers a speech at the National University of Montevideo. On 19, after concluding his visit to Uruguay, he traveled to Argentina and Brazil.He reports on television to the people of Cuba the results of the Conference of Punta del Este.
On October 22, 1962, the outbreak of the October Crisis,he is assigned to defend the western part of Cuban territory. Che set up his headquarters on the ridge of the bodies, Pinar del Rio.
On June 30, 1963 he traveled to Algeria to participate in activities for the anniversary of independence.
On March 17, 1964 part due to Geneva to participate in the World Conference on Trade and Development.
On October 3, in the act of constitution of the Central Committee of Communist Party of Cuba, Fidel reads Che's farewell letter.
On November 3, 1966 arrived in La Paz, Bolivia, under the name of Adolfo Mena Gonzalez and Uruguayan passport. On 7 November he joined the guerrillas.
On April 18, 1967 Cuba published his "Message to the peoples of the world through the Tricontinental".
On October 8, 1967 was wounded in combat in the Quebrada del Yuro and then killed in the village of La Higuera. |
